Earlier today, a supposed cousin-in-law to former Big Brother Naija housemate, Gifty, shared photos reportedly taken at her wedding. She revealed that Gifty who claims to be single, was married to a man named David Sorochukwu Akumah in 2014. 

 

Gifty has however reacted in a post via her Instagram page after the photos hit the internet. She wrote:

My Cousine David never uploaded Gifty's wedding pictures as an instrument in removing Gifty from BBN as accused, or to claim her further as his legally married wife,... rather what he did was to shut down Folders of upto 1000 copies of both Bachelors, Traditional and White wedding pictures of him and Gifty from his Facebook account, immediately after they had a problem that was not properly managed by the couple themselves about Gifty's Cheating Life while still in his husband's house.

It's a Pity that Gifty is still a very big Liar, never truthful to her new Fans and will never be because that's how her fake identified super model mother as she said in Pulse TV interview brought her up. Obviously you can't give what you don't have...Gifty was not morally brought up due to want of making it big with the mother by all means over the years.

2017 Beach soccer World Cup: Nigeria know foes today

Nigeria’s Supersand Eagles will today know their group opponents as the draw for this year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup finals hold in Nassau, The Bahamas.

A statement from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says that FIFA instructor and Team Administrator of the Supersand Eagles, Mr Sunday Okayi, will represent Nigeria at the draw scheduled to hold at the Hotel Atlantis, The Bahamas.

Nigeria, Africa’s two-time winners who finished second at the 2016 AFCON beach soccer in Lagos after losing 4-8 to Senegal in the final, are going for a fifth appearance in the competition which holds this year from April 27 to May 7.

Meanwhile, the Supersand Eagles handler, Audu Adamu, has said he is determined to take Nigeria as far as the semi-finals this time.

“I want to make a statement by taking Nigeria to the semi-finals at the World Cup in the Bahamas. Our best performance at the World Cup was quarter-final finish [in 2007 and 2011] and I believe we can do better this time with proper motivation. We just have to put certain things in place.

“In my programme for the World Cup, I want us to embark on a training tour where we will play a series of friendlies. I even want a friendly against Russia which did not qualify for the World Cup,” ‘Ejo’ as he is fondly called, told Tribune Sport.

The Kogi state-born former BCC Lions goalkeeper also clamours for incentives to propel his men before the global competition.

“They [NFF] only gave the players N500,000 each as competition bonus after the AFCON competition in Lagos. In the past, we were paid $1,000 as winning bonus and the players expected this again in Lagos. Though, they [NFF] told the players before the competition of what they will be paid.

“We need motivation going for the World Cup, we will be happy if they can give us $2,000 or $3,000 as winning bonus. We have been on $1,000 winning bonus for seven years now, so, it will be extra motivation if they can increase this time. We have to show the world that the black continent is also good at beach soccer.

“This time we have to start preparation early. If we start camping by early February, we can go to Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal and play because these are teams which gave us headache in Lagos during the AFCON. We lost the Cup in Lagos because we didn’t prepare early enough because I believe we were better than most of the teams in the competition,” said the former Ashanti Gold of Ghana goalkeeper.

The Nigerian born British-Ghanaian act, Rachel Akosua Funmilola Garton popularly known as Lola Rae, expressed that nudity is something fans should not expect from her, but assured that “there will be enough to see to keep their imaginations going.”

The singer who recently released a song with popular award winning artist Davido, titled ‘BIKO’ said though artistes are not promoting nudity, “it is exactly what is taking over the music industry because everybody wants to sell his or her song.”

Lola explained that the way she dresses on a normal day is quite different from the way she does when going onstage.

PDP chieftain sues DSS over illegal detention

A chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Lagos State,  Mr.  Babatunde Gbadamosi, has approached the Federal High Court, Lagos, to challenge his arrest and detention by the Department of State Security Service.

Joined as respondents in the suit are the Department of State Security, the Director, Department of State Security and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The defendant is seeking the following reliefs: that his arrest on the 21st February 2017 by the 1st and 2nd respondents, their officers, servants, agents, privies, howsoever at Directorate of State Security

Service (DSS) office, Shaginsha, Magodo, Lagos State, constitutes a flagrant violation of the his fundamental rights, also that his detention by the 1st and 2nd respondents since the 22nd day of February, 2017 amounts to a flagrant violation of the Fundamental Rights, also that  the arrest and continuous detention of the Applicant by the respondents, their servants, privies, agents or howsoever amounts to contravention of the Applicant’s Fundamental Human Rights.

He is also asking for an injunction restraining the respondents, whether by themselves, their servants, agents, officers or otherwise howsoever, from further violating the fundamental rights of the Applicant through unlawful arrest and detention.

He is also asking for an order restraining the Respondents, whether by themselves, their servants, agents, officers or otherwise howsoever from carrying out any acts or omission which is likely to contravene the fundamental rights of the Applicant guaranteed under the Constitution and African Charter.

Popular transgender, Chyna Gibson killed in New Orleans

She's now the fifth transgender woman to be killed in 2017. Gibson was fatally shot in New Orleans on Saturday February 25, 2017 while she was in town celebrating Mardi Gras.

According to reports, multiple gunshots were heard at the 4300 block of Downman Road, outside of a shopping center around 8:30 p.m. Gibson was found between two parked cars and pronounced dead at the scene. 

Gibson was born Walter Flemming but was known widely as Gibson on and off stage. Her surprising dance moves and on-stage persona made her popular in local LGBTQ inner B/HAP (ball and house pageant) circles.

Texas advocacy group Black Trans Women, Inc., released a statement on Gibson. “Chyna Gibson had gone home to New Orleans to like thousands of other people, celebrate Mardi Gras and be with her family during that festive time. Instead, she was brutally murdered.  Shot ten times and left to die in the parking lot of a New Orleans strip mall. BTWI would like to express our condolences to Chyna’s family, friends and all who loved her.  She was well known in the pageant and ballroom community as Chyna Doll Dupree, and she will be missed.”

Men of the Ogun State Police Command has arrested three robbery suspects in connection with an attack on a cocoa merchant and his son.

The suspects identified as as Olumide Ifelowo, Abiodun Bayegun and Fatai Sowunmi launched an attack on on Isaiah Sowunmi and his son, Abiodun Sowunmi at Ogunmakin area of the state, in an attempt to dispossess them of their valuables.
It was gathered that a distress call put through to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Owode Egba, CSP Sheu Alao, who went with a police team to the scene of the incident led to the arrest of  Ifelowo. 

The victim, Sowunmi, was said to have identified Ifelowo as the one who shot at his son. Upon interrogation, Ifelowo reportedly confessed that he and one Jeje were invited for the robbery by Bayegun and Fatai. 

He said further that Fatai provided them information that the victim had a lot of money as a cocoa merchant. His confession led to the arrest of Bayegun and Fatai, while a cut-to-size shotgun loaded with a live cartridge was recovered from them. 

The victim of the attack, Abiodun was taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical care. The state commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) unit for discreet investigation.

‘Nigeria Has Had No Free And Fair Election In The Last Few Years’ – Ebonyi Governor, Ugwuanyi

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has said that there has been no free and fair election in Nigeria in the last couple of years.

Ugwuanyi said this in Enugu when the Constitutional and Electoral Reform Committee led by Sen. Ken Nnamani paid him a courtesy call.

He said that lack of free and fair election was responsible for the dwindling fortunes of Nigeria’s democratic experiment on inability to conduct a free and fair elections over the years.

He said that it had become imperative to put in place a robust electoral act that would engender peace and stability in the polity.

According to him, the need for the ongoing reform could be overemphasised.

KWASU: 1st Nigerian university to offer aeronautical engineering programme

The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, in Moro Local Government Area of the state, has become the first university to run Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering degree programme in the country.

This is sequel to the approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The NUC approval is contained in a statement by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, in Ilorin on Monday.

The Vice-Chancellor claimed that the university had formally submitted an invitation to NUC for accreditation, and assured that the university was fully ready for the exercise.

Na’allah congratulated all the students and staff of the institution`s College of Engineering and Technology, particularly the Department of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.

He attributed the accreditation of the course to the hard work and patience of the students and staff of the university.

KWASU’s college of engineering and technology currently offers courses in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and computer engineering, food, agricultural and biological engineering and material science and engineering.

Dr Muyideen Akorede, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed, said the government would continue to promote sound scholarship for citizens.

He said the current administration has completed the construction of an N800 million engineering complex for the university to boost learning and teaching in the citadel of learning.

Kwara State University is the 77th university to be registered by the NUC.

Nigerian legendary singer, Tuface Idibia made a cheque presentation on Monday, February 27,  2017 to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lagos.

Tuface who talked on the condition of the IDPs on his last visit said;

“The conditions I met the internally displaced persons, when I visited their various camps were terrible. They were really terrible.
“The 2Face Foundation has, therefore, decided to enter into partnership with the UNHCR to see how we can help put smiles on the faces of these persons. My foundation is today presenting this cheque to the UNHCR to support it in its operations of alleviating the sufferings of these IDPs.

Ms Brigitte Mukango-Eno, the UNHCR’s Acting Country Representative to Nigeria, who received the cheque, thanked Tuface for the kind gesture.

“We sincerely want to express the gratitude of the UNHCR to 2Face. This is a right step toward our private sector following. Over these years, it has become important for us, as an organisation, to depend on the private sector, for us to be able to meet our responsibilities. 2Face has scored a very important goal by discovering the UNHCR Office within the UN system. We want to use this opportunity to appeal to other private Nigerians and philanthropists to emulate this gesture by the 2Face Foundation in alleviating the conditions of the IDPs in the North East.” she said.

Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido II, has warned Imams and traditional rulers in Kano state to desist from beating their wives otherwise they would lose their titles. The monarch who is a strong advocate against domestic violence, said this at a mass wedding organized in the state over the weekend.

"You should all come back to your senses and stop these barbaric [acts] because we will not allow this to continue in Kano. I have warned all district heads, village heads, ward heads and imams to also desist from the bad habit of beating their wives and whoever among them is reported to me to have beaten up his wife, would outrightly lose his title.” he said
The monarch added that his team is working on a bill that will stop poor men from marrying more than one wife.
“We are going meet on Wednesday this week to review the over 80 pages of the law and make the necessary adjustment before presenting it to the State House of Assembly for passage into law.
Our people are facing serious challenges in their family affairs. We have heard series of complaints where a father forced his daughter to marry someone against her wish. We have heard so many cases where people marry additional wives while they could not feed them well, clothe them well or give them good shelter even though they have the means to do so.

In this case, the proposed law provides that, a court of law would take something out of the man’s wealth to feed his family, give them shelter and clothes. In the event the man makes any attempt to resist the court’s directives, then the law takes necessary action against him. If you know, your salary cannot take care of more than one wife, you should not get an additional wife” he said

OJ Simpson could be released as early as October after 9 years in prison
